Laos
Lao People’s Democratic Republic “Lao P.D.R”

“The man who gave the territories of what is now Laos their first shape as unified state was a fourteen- century Lao prince named Fagnum, a convert to Buddhism who had spent his youth as an exile at Angkor. He established his court at Muang Swa, on the Upper Mekong, and invited to it bonzes (Buddhism monks), scholars, and craftsmen. He acquired a 500 year-old Buddha called the Phrabang, which later gave Muangswa the name of Luang Pgrabang (town of the Golden Buddha) “then called the Million Elephants Kingdom”
Laos is landlocked by Thailand, Myanmar, China, Vietnam and Cambodia, Laos appears isolated. River transport remains the main method of travel and is the best way to savor the unspoiled countryside and sunset along the Mekong River.
Laos has a wealth of wonderful natural landscapes and ethnic diversity. When you travel with CEL Travel, not only will you have an enjoyable and relaxing holiday, but you will gain a deep understanding of Lao culture, history, their genuine lifestyle and their daily activities.

Who are the Lao?
- The Lao live at Peace with all five neighbouring Kingdoms, with the exception of Begu (The Shan state of Myanmar) with whom they have been at war for a number of years. But the un navigable River, mountains, forest intervening mean they can not do for each others must harm (Van Wuysthhoff 1641).

- The Lao generally well-built and vigorous, his eyes are less slanting. His cheekbones less prominent. His nose straighter than other Mongolian peoples (Garnier 1868)
-  Intelligent, hospitable (Hendri Mouhot 1861)
-  Traditionally the Lao have described themselves as people who eat sticky rice (Khao Niao)

And fermented fish paste (Padek) Play the Kene, the national instrument, and built their houses on piles.  Lao women wear a colorful border round the hem of their skirts or sin (The sin is wrap-over, tailored sarong, which used to be worn with a gauzy scarf over the breast).
